Plenary Speakers

Anders is an active member of TEDGlobal and has keynoted at TEDx in the United States and Australia, was nominated for the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader in 2019, and was the keynote speaker at the G20's Y20 Summit in Australia.

David Murray was CEO of the Commonwealth Bank for 13 years. Along with a number of private and public sector advisory roles, he also served as Chair of the Australian Future Fund and the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds.

Diane Smith-Gander has served in a wide range of executive and non-executive roles including as a member of the leadership team at Westpac and Deputy Chairperson of NBN Co. Diane is currently appointed to the three member panel reviewing the capability of APRA, following the findings of the Hayne Royal Commission.

General Morrison concluded his appointment as Australia’s Chief of Army in May 2015. During a 36 year career as a soldier he saw operational service in Bougainville and East Timor and as an Australian Army Officer led troops from platoon level all the way up to three star General – Chief of Army.

Mr Byres was appointed as a Member and Chair of APRA from 1 July 2014 for a five-year term. He was subsequently reappointed for a second five-year term commencing 1 July 2019. Mr Byres is APRA’s representative on the Payments System Board, the Council of Financial Regulators, the Trans-Tasman Council on Banking Supervision, the Basel Committee and its oversight body, the Governors and Heads of Supervision.

Mr Alastair MacGibbon is Australia’s leading cyber security expert. Before entering the private sector, MacGibbon led the Australian Cyber Security Centre and implemented the Government’s Cyber Security Strategy as the National Cyber Security Adviser.

Alistair is the CEO of Vanteum, a Sydney based consulting firm that specialises in Digital Growth Strategy and Open Banking strategy for Banks, Financial Services organisations and Financial Services companies.

Anu is an international recognised speaker and panel member having spoken at over 30 conferences and events in North America, Middle East, Europe and Asia- Pacific. She shares practical insights on Risk Management related to Emerging Technologies, Data, Third Parties and Future of risk.

Ariana started at Nexus Mutual in 2016, reporting to the CEO and sitting on the senior leadership team, looking after brand and communications for the organisation.

Brad Fox is an industry thought leader in financial services having led the Association of Financial Advisers Limited (AFA) as President from 2010 – 2012, and then as Chief Executive Officer from 2012 to 2017.

In his current position of Head of Cyber Protection, is responsible for all types of cybercrime, financial crimes internal and external, AML/CTF KYC, Privacy and Data Protection. He is leading a team specialising in Cyber Protection, cybersecurity as a second line of defence, cybercrime and fraud education, prevention, detection and investigation of all financial crimes affecting the Bank also, AML/CTF KYC, Privacy and Data Protection.

Last year’s Bridges COBA Emerging Leader winner, Dan Vittorio, launched his career at Beyond Bank in 2004 as the Executive Assistant of the Chief Executive, Robert Keogh. In 2009, he joined the Property + Facilities Department and in 2012, was given the opportunity to manage the largest development in Beyond Bank history, being the relocation, design and fitout of its new head office in Adelaide.

Daniel McAuliffe is a Senior Advisor in Commonwealth Treasury’s Structural Reform Division and its project lead on the Consumer Data Right and Open Banking.

With over 25 years of experience in senior executive positions, David has a proven track record in providing value and positive returns to a range of institutions across a range of industries.

Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is one of Australia's highest profile psychologists, author, broadcaster and a specialist in parenting, children, adolescents and the use of technology for mental health.

Elizabeth is the Chair of the Customer Owned Banking Association and SGS Economics and Planning and in July retired as the Deputy Chancellor of Macquarie University after 17 years on the University’s governing Council. 

Greg McKenna is Chair of Police Bank and has been working in banking and finance since 1986.

Jacki is passionate about the role finance can play in ensuring a sustainable and resilient Australia. Jacki recently retired from her Group Executive role with Insurance Australia Group and is now an advisor to the Group on Climate, Sustainability and Resilience.

Jane Calder is the Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Heritage Bank, where she has accountability for marketing, communications and community sponsorship, digital channels, product development and management and customer experience.

Jean Kittson is an author, public speaker and commentator. She is an advocate for education, youth, health, equal opportunity and aging.

Jennifer is an experienced Company Secretary, regulatory compliance and risk professional with a demonstrated history of working in the customer owned banking sector.

Jo is a market-leading capital markets lawyer at the forefront of developments for mutuals, with nearly 20 years’ experience in domestic and international markets.

Jocelyn is the Independent Chair of the Customer Owned Banking Code Compliance Committee.

Jon is an Executive Coach who helps leaders articulate strategic messages in meaningful ways. He works with many well known national and international brands and is currently developing his training into core curriculum for University MBA programs.

Laura is Strategy Director at Mentally Friendly - a Product, Service and Policy Design Studio based in Sydney and Canberra.

Len joined CUA in 2012 and until recently lead the CUA Treasury Team with responsibility for financial markets, active liquidity management, interest rate risk management, and Balance Sheet Management.

Lisa Schutz is the Founder and CEO of Verifier. Verifier is a privacy-by-design, consumer driven data sharing platform that enables people to share their data in order to get better outcomes – including more efficient loan and rental property applications.

Luke has been with the Customer Owned Banking Association and its predecessors since their formation and has been an advocate for the credit union industry since 1996.

Ms Dewar joined Heritage Bank in 2009 and has over 17 years’ experience in human resources. She was appointed Chief People Officer in March 2019 and is responsible for the bank's overall human resources strategy, leading this function across recruitment, learning and development, employee relations, health and safety, organisational development and change management.

Mark Worthington is the CEO of Australian Mutual Bank which operates the Endeavour Mutual Bank and Sydney Mutual Bank brands.

Michelle has over twenty years’ experience in financial services in Australia and internationally. Her experience spans leading customer and business strategy, delivery of major corporate projects, credit risk, regional sales leadership of large customer facing teams and call centres.

Michelle has over 25 years’ experience in the financial sector, 22 of these in various management roles within Regional Australia Bank.

Nasir Sobhani, also known as ‘The Streets’ Barber,’ has earned his affectionate title spending his time taking to Melbourne’s streets offering free haircuts and shaves to the homeless and less fortunate.

Sally Mackenzie is Director – Strategy and Stakeholders at the Customer Owned Banking Association – the industry association for Australia’s credit unions, building societies and mutual banks. She leads COBA’s lobbying and advocacy agenda, working to achieve a more competitive banking market.

Mr Peter Lock has more than 30 years' experience in the financial services industry spanning insurance, institutional banking, business development, business banking and corporate banking.

Peter Townsend is the General Manager of Coastline Credit Union. Coastline is based on the Mid North Coast of NSW and has one of the fastest growing memberships in Australia.

Sacha brings over 20 years of experience in credit bureau, data and collections. Her experience include Equifax and Experian as a Collections segment lead and principal consultant working across the credit lifecycle and various industries including Financial Institutions, Debt Purchase, Telco & Utilities.

Sally Mackenzie is Director – Strategy and Stakeholders at the Customer Owned Banking Association – the industry association for Australia’s credit unions, building societies and mutual banks. She leads COBA’s lobbying and advocacy agenda, working to achieve a more competitive banking market.

Sonia Reinhardt is currently employed by two Australian Member Banks of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) - Teachers Mutual Bank and Bank Australia. She is the Senior HR Advisor and member of the GABV Secretariat in the Netherlands.

Victoria McKenzie-McHarg is the Manager of Strategy and Planning at Bank Australia, and Chairperson of the Climate Action Network of Australia (CANA).
